700 yards of heaven

Today. What a good, albeit busy, day.

1 - Still need to solidify the travel plans for the next month or two - but for sure on the plan are Mexico (1 week), Wisconsin (1/2 a week - if only for the cheese curds!), Boston (maybe 2 days), and Texas (4 days).

All this by March. Potentially.

2 - Good news - I am also going to Florida for almost a full week with Mike for a vacay... Miami, Del Ray Beach, West Palm Beach - you name it we will be there.

3 - Weighed in at work today for my challenge with a few co-workers - I am down 5.6 lbs since we started on 1/7, and down over 11lbs since 12/25. VICTORY! I hit my January weight loss goal a week early. :o) I WILL be down 25-30 lbs by Florida. Darn it!
and quite possibly the sweetest of all things -

4 - I set out tonight at the gym to repeat my 400 yard workout from last night. NOPE. Was not having that. I did 200 yards of 25's followed by 300 yards of kick drill 50's (front and back kicking), rounding out a stellar and quite easy 400 yard workout - then decided to crank out some more 25's and then add in 50's. At 600 yards I decided to cool down with an additional 100 yards this time of breatstroke. I even did 1 flipturn in that 100 yards just to see how the CO2 would go.

Not so bad.

SWEET. And wow - that 700 felt like 400. I think my plan of swimming everyday is going to do wonders for my Saturday long swims (whatever I can finish in 1.5 hours).

Well I am dried out - tired - and ready for bed.

Night all!

Cra Hey Zee... busy busy days!

Man the past few days have been crazy.

CRA-HEY-ZEE.

Hence me being MIA once again. :o)

I finally feel a sense of relief. Organization restored. Work load caught up. Files updated and released. I think that I really needed to recharge my batteries for the new year.

At first was under the impression that I was in pergatory as far as work was concerned. Not really happy, not upset - just sorta plodding along.

Well this week all that changed. I was prepared to loose my job due to the changing of companies and I know that they are cutting heads, but instead I got moved into a competence center for decorative plastics. And in the next year or so my job function will change to being just what I really want to do, moving into sourcing activities and out of APQPs!

I feel relief. I feel recharged. I feel really good about my job again. I love the company I work for, and now I know that it is just going ot keep getting better. Plus I get discounts on tires and brakes! :o)

On the exercise/training/health side of life - as of this evening I am down 9 lbs since Christmas. And that is without major workouts like I was pulling in December. I have ran a little, biked a little, but mainly had been focused on all the work concerns and nail biting, so I was not living in the pool lately.

Hear that?

That sound right there?

That is the sound of the pool calling my name. My fellow swimming nymphs are beckoning to me, but they will have to wait a little longer. I am not feeling like swimming right now - not like for a period of time, I mean literally just right now.

You see, when life gets crazy I get antsy - so tomorrow I am going to head out on a run. I am skipping my scheduled swim practice with FAST to head out to Kennsington. I will be back in the game in swimming next week - just for now I need to do a little solo activity.

I said it before I will say it again - running is my church. Running is my therapy. Running is what keeps propelling me forward.

Swimming is my active recovery. Swimming is my fluid motion. Swimming is my excitement and joy. Swimming is my sport-love right now (Mike is my LOVE love of course! Awwwww.. sappy!)

But running. Running is my meditation and contemplation place.

I bike when I want to work out frustration. I swim when I want to celebrate and feel beautiful. I run when I need to re-center.

One thing I have found in the past few months is that activity has to match mood if I am to stick with it and make it my life. If I am really in need of zoning out I cannot do drills in the pool or hop on the bike right now. If I need to get out my anger, I cannot go for a run because I would take it out on my body and that will not move me forward!

I love the fact that I have embraced health. My body and my mood are both very happy with me! I am loving being active and I see such improvements already! I hit my December swimming goal early, so now I am working on my January goal. No more half-assed sub-funs (to blatantly steal a term from Bold).

I went all-in this year. I think that I may just have a full-house in my hand.

To end this fine fine post - Mike's Sister emailed this to me today and I love it!

For New Year 2008...
PLANNING AHEAD
Author Unknown

The best gift anyone can give me this new year is a planner.
I like planners because I am a planner.
I like thinking ahead.
I like being prepared.
I get a high from being on top of things.
But some things are beyond planning.
And life doesn't always turn out as planned.

You don't plan for a broken heart. You don't plan for a failed business venture. You don't plan for an adulterous husband.Or a wife who wants you out of her life.

You don't plan for an autistic child. You don't plan for spinsterhood. You don't plan for a lump in your breast.

You plan to be young forever. You plan to climb the corporate ladder. You plan to be rich and powerful. You plan to be acclaimed and successful. You plan to conquer the universe. You plan to fall in love -- and be loved forever.

You don't plan to be sad.You don't plan to be hurt. You don't plan to be broke. You don't plan to be betrayed. You don't plan to be alone in this world.

You plan to be happy.

You don't plan to be shattered.

Sometimes if you work hard enough, you can get what you want. But most times, what you want and what you get are two different things.

We, mortals, plan. But so does God in the heavens.

Sometimes, it is difficult to understand God's plans especially when His plans are not in consonance with ours. Often, when God sends us crisis, we turn to Him in anger. True, we cannot choose the cross that God wishes us to carry, but we can carry that cross with courage knowing that God will never abandon us nor send something we cannot cope with.

Sometimes, God breaks our spirit to save our soul.

Sometimes, He breaks our heart to make us whole.

Sometimes, God sends us pain so we can be stronger.

Sometimes, God sends us failure so we can be humble.

Sometimes, God sends us illness so we can take better care of ourselves.

Sometimes, God takes everything away from us so we can learn the value of everything He gave us.

Make plans but understand that we live by God's grace. Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Who does #2 work for?!?

A few topics to discuss today - 1: The Biggest Loser Fantasy League run by Pat, 2: Swimming like a fish, and 3:Work.

Well my TBGFL Team, Chubikins, rose through the ranks and in a mere 3 weeks I went form dead last to #2. In the words of one Mr. Austin powers "Yeah baby!"

I do not know what it is, but this show has always had me addicted. Mike thinks that the show is lame where as I find the show really motivating. I mean come on! Seeing these people confront their inner demons is not just good TV, it is so real and raw. I love it because no matter how good of shape you are in, I am sure that you can identify with someone on the show.

I *heart* The Biggest Looser, and I look forward to Tuesday nights. Exciting stuff people!

So... did someone say swim like a fish? Oh, wait. That was me. I decided to skip Master's swim tonight and do some drills solo in our lap pool here.

First observation - my lap pool SUCKS. It is 1/2 a lap. So would that be around 12.5 meters long? No matter the distance, just as I get into a drill I have to stop and turn around. That was a little frustrting, but in all reality what can I say? Beggars cannot be choosers. This one does in a pinch and gets me going when I am too tired to drive 45 minutes to my masters practice.

I followed a few basic TI drills to warm up, then got into some stop-stop-switches, and some skating and shark-fin drills.

Here is a (mundane and simple) question to all of you triathletes and swimmers out there: how on earth can I improve my breathing? I found out through my master's coach that I, like most multi-athletes (aka non-swimmers), keep my mouth closed as I blissfully traverse the pool. I am getting exhausted because I inhale a huge breath and then feel as though I cannot get rid of it all and get a suffocation or hyperventilating sensation.

NOT. FUN. (just in case you were curious)

Is there a drill or technique that I can practice to build up this basic and pretty neccesary skill?

I am getting better. I have slowed down and have broken down my stroke to fully sense when I need to roll to breath, but my breath is still way to labored and deep. My coach keeps telling me that she will practice "converstional breathing' with me, but alas there are 1,000 (OK more like 50 or so) swimmers to her single being.

Any comments would be greatly aprreciated! So.. ummm... are SCUBA tanks illegal in tri's? Because... ummm.... you know.... I was just curious.

So all in all I completed a good solid half-hour of swimming like a slightly asthmatic fish. It still felt great! *weeze* *weeze*

On the work side - I am now officially convinced that my boss wants my co-workers to hate me.

And if not hate me completely, then at least to give me a lot of grief! Today alone he sent out two emails to my entire group telling them that they should be doing things like me.

Yeah... not too crazy about that.

There are 5 active people in my group to manage 6 divisions and thousands of components. That is a lot of data people. So... I like to work efficiently. I hate redundancy. No.. no, I loathe redundancy and wasted time. Plan the work and work the plan, baby!

I appreciate the behind-the-scenes kudos and performance reviews because I know that I am valued here, however I have been getting comments from some co-workers pretty much stating that now they have to do more work because of me and my, well, work ethic.

I know that my boss is trying to get everyone on the same page... harmonization and all... but in the end I feel like I am the child walking into a situation on the playground.

Tomorrow when I get into work... I may just end up with a wedgie. *sigh* Stupid wedgies...

:)

Have a great evening y'all!
