A good time was had by all.

And by all, I mean me.

Mike and I went to Mike's parents' house for dinner tonight so we did not get home until 9:45PM. We decided to hit the gym so I could get in a nice swim, and Mike some leg work. By the time we got to Bally's it was 10:00PM and the pool closes at 10:30PM. Time to make good on working it out and really following the plan... no extended rests for this girl!

I had just enough time to manage 1100 yards of my 1300 yard workout. Not too bad! Details are here.

Tomorrow is a 1400 meter open water swim, followed by 2 laps - 25 miles - at ILRA. I am going to take them easy, and will be wearing my HRM to make sure I do just that. I like to push it, so I need to practice NOT pushing it. If I am to succeed moving forward in training for longer distances, I need to make sure that I can listen to directions and push when I need to - but rest when I need to as well. I think that that is the largest fault in a lot of us. We don't go hard enough, and we do not go easy enough. How hard is it to push and not push? Pretty hard when you are always wondering what is coming up next, or you feel that you are slacking.

I am proud to say that I suffer from neither, I just have a solo speed and intensity to my training, and I need to change that. It never worked for running - run or walk, My two speeds. Well now I am focusing on purposeful training. So the day of monospeed and training are over.

Reading the forums up at BT today, I saw a great post started by Tom Demerly of Bikesport Michigan fame. He started a thread about racing tactics for Steelhead 70.3, which is Michigan's Big Show triathlon, and one of the largest, if not the largest, half ironman races in the world.

He ended it with a simple saying that I just love. It will be my motto for the next year as I prepare to partake in my own 70,3 mile journey.

Remember: There will be highs and there will be lows- it's the nature of the
sport. But in the grand scheme of things we are incredibly fortunate to even
be in the race. If you keep that in mind it makes the day that much more
tolerable and significant. - Tom Demerly

This is exactly how I feel about being involved in triathlons... we are lucky to even be in the race.

So well put!

Well all - have a great evening, this runnergirl is tired!

Ooooh, I like his quote, too! Given I had spinal fusion surgery last year, I'm definitely just glad to be able to be out there. :-)
