7 Miles Saturday, and a 5k today!

I decided to flip my weekend training and complete 7 miles yesterday so I could run the 5K race today with my boyfriend. The results have not posted as of yet, and there was no clock at the end so I really have no idea what my finishing time was however I am ready to state that it was far better than my CRIM 5k time! I am guesstimating that I finished in the 35:00 range. No chip timing either - it was pull tab. I am taking Monday off to rest my tired legs! I really do not want to get burned out, especially 34 days prior to the race I have been training for.

Yesterday I ran down Grand River to an old cemetery, through the cemetery, through a condo complex or two, past a Harley dealership, up Drake to 11 mile and over many hills! I took it easy and just ran with how my body felt. I started out just doing a 5k yesterday, nearly quiting after mile 1. All of a sudden I felt really motivated and my body had sorted out the sub-10 pace so I decided to keep going. Yeah, I was shocked too. Then I thought, hey if I do my 6 today, I will run the 5k with Mike tomorrow. So I set out on 6. But the music on my iPod was too good to stop. I kept on charging up and gliding down the hills until I looped past my house to see MIke's car in the driveway. Crap. He didn't know that I was running and would probably be a little disappointed that I am putting in so many miles the day prior to a race knowing I had nothing scheduled.

So I stopped at 7 miles, reluctantly. (And I was right, btw - he was shaking his head at me when I walked (read:plodded) through the door out of breath and all sweaty.) I had more than doubled the distance I wanted to run, and got in 7 more miles than planned for the day. Okay, so let's do dinner. And we did, and it was good. I tell you - Mexicano food is the only thing to eat prior to races. Es muy delicioso.

Today's race with all hills - and to my suprise my first mile clocked in at 9:53 on the dot. Niiiice.

Well - hope all have had a good weekend! Run long, run strong, and run happy!
